Different Bed Sizes that are Available

If you are looking to buy a mattress, there are four main sizes available:

Size #1) Twin Size Mattress – The twin size mattress (also known as the single size) is 39″W x 75″L. It is the perfect size for one person, and is also good for guest bedrooms because the mattress doesn’t take up a lot of space. These are also commonly used for bunk beds in kids rooms or dorms. You can also push two of these mattresses together to make up a king sized bed.

Size #2) Full Size Mattress – The full size mattress is 45″W x 75″L. This is a good mattress to buy for a young child because it gives him ample space, even when he is well into his adult life. Parents like it because they have somewhere to sit if they want to read their child a bedtime story or tuck them in. These beds are also on the smaller side, so are also good for guest bedrooms as well.

Size #3) Queen Size Mattresses – The queen size mattress is 60″W x 80″L. This mattress is very popular for young couples or couples that don’t have ample space in their room. It is certainly enough room for two people, but neither will have ample space to themselves. It is also a popular choice because it is considerably cheaper than the king sized bed. The platform bed is a popular choice for those with a queen size or king size mattress.

Size #4) King Size Mattresses – The king sized mattress is the biggest mattress available measuring 76″W x 80″L. This is certainly the mattress of choice if you have the space available and the financial means for it. This bed gives ample room to both partners sharing the bed, although it is also the most expensive.

Remember that the size of the mattress will determine the price of all the objects associated with the bed as well: the box spring, the frame, and the entire bedding set will all go up with each bed size you go up.

King Sized Mattress Types

If you are in the market for a new mattress for yourself, there are three main types of mattresses you can purchase:

Type #1) Spring Mattresses – Spring mattresses are the most common types of mattresses that are made today. The inner part of the mattress is made up of coil springs, and these are what support the bodies that lie on top. The mattress holds its shape by the fabric encasement that surrounds the coils. The gauge of the coils determine how hard or soft your mattress is, as well as the level of support. Generally speaking, the higher gauge coils translate to a softer mattress, while lower gauge coils translate to a firmer one.

Type #2) Air Mattresses – Air mattresses provide support with chambers that are filled with air (instead of through coils). They are generally thought of as something to have for guests who come over or when you travel, but they are increasingly being used as the main home mattress for a growing population, especially the Select Comfort brand. That’s the brand where each partner can determine his level of firmness individually from the other side by increasing or decreasing the amount of air in his side of the bed. Those beds are extremely popular right now, so don’t dismiss air mattresses right off the bat without at least trying them out first!

Type #3) Foam Mattresses – There are several types of foam mattresses out there, but certainly the most famous (and most expensive) is the Tempurpedic! These mattresses don’t have coils or air to support the body lying on top; they are simply made up of foam in the shape of a mattress. These are supposedly the best because they conform to the shape of your body the best, but some people don’t like them. One advantage of these mattresses is that they are hypoallergenic.
